They might be subtle, and it doesn’t mean that kicking your habit will be easy, but it does mean that you’re in a good place to get to where you consider making a solid change in your life.

Now, you, as a person who is struggling with an addiction, know that you’re no longer having fun with this thing. At first, sure, it wasn’t so bad. You had friends, you hid things well, and you were in control. But, as time has gone by, you’ve found that your control has wavered, and things are mostly just bad now.

  • You just aren’t having fun anymore. Most of the time, you don’t even know why you started this horrible habit. And it’s pretty likely that these days, you’re just trying not to get sick. This isn’t what it was supposed to be like when you started a relationship with your drug of choice, but here you are. It’s not fun, but it’s life, right?
  • You desperately want out. If you’ve considered just doing a little too much of your drug of choice, or you’ve wished and wished that there were a way to get out of your addiction, it’s time to seek treatment. You’re there. You’re ready. Nobody can do it for you, but you can start to do it for yourself, and now is as good a time as any.
  • You’ve lost it all. Let’s be honest here. When you have nothing else to lose, losing your addiction might not be such a bad thing. You might feel like it doesn’t matter how miserable you get because you’re probably already there anyway. If you have nothing to lose from trying to overcome your addiction, then it’s time to get started.

These are just three signs that you’re ready to overcome your addiction, but many people who are successfully living clean and sober have said that they are three of the strongest signs, so if you answered yes to any of them, it might be time to get started on your recovery journey.
